Edward Herbert Barnard was born was died in Belmont, Massachusetts. He was a pupil of John B. Johnston at the Boston Museum School from 1877 to 1881. At this time, he also had worked as a draftsman for stained-glass designs.
Remembered mostly for his Barbizon-style landscapes, Barnard studied at the Acadmie Julian in Paris and exhibited portraits in the Salons of 1888 and 1889. He subsequently painted throughout France along with Boston artists Charles H. Davis and Charles H. Hayden.
Barnards work was exhibited at the Jordan Gallery, the South End Free Art Exhibitions, and at the Pennsylvania Academy annuals. He was a member of the St. Botolphs Club and the Boston Watercolor Club. |
